About This Notebook

This notebook is concentrated knowledge from my explorations, learning and development work - the solutions I apply daily running global supply chain operations, and the experiments I run outside of it, exploring the art of the possible. It bridges physical operations and AI across supply chain, procurement, planning, logistics and warehousing.

0.1Why it exists

Two reasons, in this order.

To systematize my own knowledge. Writing forces structure. A method I have used in a workshop, a harness pattern that survived production, a transformation move that landed - none of it compounds until it is written down, connected and dated. This notebook is where that happens.

To share it with the community. Key takeaways, base concepts, and the things that turned out to help - along with the things that did not. I learn by building; theory sticks when I have felt the problem first. If the notes save someone a failed pilot or a wasted quarter, they have done their job.

0.2What it covers

The role of the supply chain leader is changing - from managing work to orchestrating it. Coordination that has run through people for as long as operations have existed is moving into systems, and leaders who understand both sides of that shift will shape it rather than react to it. The notebook works through that shift in eight parts, moving from ground truth to running systems to the organisation around them.

• I. Intro: AI & Physical Operations - the ground truth: what AI changes in physical operations, what it does not, and where the real leverage sits.
• II. LLMOps - running language models inside operations: evaluation, monitoring, reliability and cost. The discipline that keeps model-based systems honest at enterprise scale.
• III. AgentOps - the engineering around the model once it acts: control loops, tools, memory, guardrails, and what it takes to operate agents in production rather than demo them.
• IV. Process & Data Readiness - the unglamorous precondition. Process maps that reflect reality, master data that holds, and the integration work that decides whether anything above this line survives contact with operations.
• V. Governance, Risk & Compliance - decision rights, audit trails, model risk, regulatory exposure. How to stay in control of systems that increasingly compose decisions themselves.
• VI. People & Organisation - roles, skills, operating models and the change work. What happens to planners, buyers and managers when the coordination layer moves.
• VII. Economics & the Case - cost structures, value measurement and the business case that survives a CFO review. Where the money actually comes from, and where it quietly leaks.
• VIII. Playbooks - end-to-end sequences for real situations: the pilot that earns a rollout, the function-by-function moves, the failure patterns worth avoiding.

Chapters land as the work does. Parts without published chapters are placeholders for work in progress, and drafts are marked in the navigation.

0.3How to read it

Chapters stand alone - start anywhere the navigation takes you. The notebook is written in public and revised as understanding improves; every chapter carries its update date, and none of them claims to be a final position. These are working notes, held to a working standard: specific, dated, and honest about what is proven versus what is promising.
